Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president, and is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
